My name is Kris Kehlet, and I’m a Danish illustrator and surface pattern designer - travelling the world - but currently based in beautiful Sydney, Australia.

 

My work is usually bold, witty, and full of popping colors — often bringing together unexpected motifs and quirky combinations that spark curiosity (think robots paired with oranges, neon florals, or objects seen from surprising new angles).

I began illustrating just six years ago, after leaving a career in project management, advertising, and communications. My family and I relocated to Vietnam for 4 years and then Thailand for 2 years. Meanwhile, I simply followed my curiosity and pursued my childhood love of drawing. I'm so amazed that this has now turned into Kris Kehlet Illustration. Drawing has become my daily language for seeing the world — finding beauty in overlooked details, odd correlations, and the “ugly” things that are actually stunning when you pause to notice them. So even though I do love flowers as motifs, you’re less likely to find ‘the ordinary kind’ in my work — the ones found on patterns everywhere.

Today, I create artwork for licensing across a wide range of products, from fashion and textiles to stationery, wall art, and beyond. Whether on a notebook, a dress, or a giant wall, I always hope to surprise and create curiosity.

When I’m not at my iPad or drawing board, you’ll probably find me running, practicing yoga, or fueling up with coffee and chocolate while juggling my two kids, Charlie and Grace (yup this is my family in the picture below - all trying to deal with colder temperatures of Sydney winter after so many years in warm Asia).
